St. Martin’s in the Fields, London

Pen and wash on A5 cartridge paper

I spent the morning in the area around Trafalgar Square in London, which offers many ideas for sketching. My main purpose for the visit was to go to the annual exhibition of the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters at the Mall Galleries, always well worth attending. Of course, the weather forecasters got it wrong again and it was unexpectedly cold with an icy wind, which did not make for comfortable plein air work. This sketch was all I could do but it must have taken me half and hour and at the end I was frozen.

Island View, Scilly

Oil on canvas board, 12×16”. £60 unframed including carriage. Enquiry through contact form.

I have such sweet memories of The Isles of Scilly in the UK, having been there four times and booked to go again this coming summer. It is so beautiful and it is a painter’s paradise with views around every corner. It is rare for me to part with these paintings.
